Product Description

Author Maxwell Van Nuys  The Aken and Tallen Accounts of the First Civilian Invaders of the Black Hills; The illegal Gordon Party of 1874.  This book includes David Aken's account of the Gordon party expedition into the Black Hills, the first white civilians after General Custer's expedition.  The expedition was illegal and the Gordon party was soon expelled from the hills.  His accounts were published in the Sidney, NE newspaper, then republished in the Rapid City Daily Journal in 1922.  Annie Tallen, the first white woman in the Black HIlls, wrote her account of the expedition 25 years after, detailing her experiences and the people she met along the way.  Both accounts are told in parallel.
