South Dakota Title & Registration Information:  An off-road vehicle is any self-propelled, two or more wheeled vehicle designed primarily to be operated on land other than a highway and includes, but is not limited to, all-terrain vehicles, dune buggies and any vehicle whose manufacturer's statement of origin (MSO) or manufacturer's certificate of origin (MCO) states that the vehicle is not for highway use. If the vehicle is used, the certificate of title property transferred to the applicant must be attached.

All-terrain vehicles with four or more wheels & a combustion engine having piston or rotor displacement of 200 CC or more may be licensed as a motorcycle used on a public highway. The licensed four-wheel, all-terrain vehicle may not be operated on the interstate highway.

In South Dakota an OHV MUST be titled. If an OHV will be travelling on other than Forest Service or private roads, it must also be licensed for this use in the State of South Dakota.

If your state does not require a license for your OHV, you may obtain a temporary license to operate on South Dakota state and county roads.  A horn, headlight/taillight and mirrors are required to receive temporary licensing.  Go to and click on Black Hills ATV Permit Info.

Permit came fast. Received in 4 days.

  2. Very quick 5 Star Review

Posted by on 28th Apr 2017

I was really impressed. I think I ordered on a Saturday night and had them by Tuesday with standard delivery to Minneapolis. It certainly took any worry about getting ready for the trip. If you haven't ridden in the Black Hills, it is extraodinary. Very few people on the trails themselves, the Forest Roads see the majority of the traffic. (Memorial Weekend 2016)

  3. Quick and Easy Trail Permits What A Time Saver 5 Star Review

Posted by on 3rd Apr 2017

I was very pleased how easy it was to apply for trail permits for the Black Hills National Park. I'm no computer expert, but the web site was easy to navigate and the permits only took a couple days to arrive at my door step, no wasting time to run around and get the permits when arriving at the park. The permits are already on the machines and we will be 4-wheeling a few minutes after we arrive at the park. Great!

Posted by on 7th Oct 2016

I buy passes every year. The places my family goes and the things we see are well worth the money.

Correspondence with the Forest Service Office is quick. I had a question and heard back in 24 hours.

Shipping is fast for standard shipping. I live on the East side of South Dakota. Ordered Friday night, had them Tuesday afternoon. That's 2 business days. Not bad guys, Thanks!
